01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
As evening falls and the sign lights up, Nanairo’s back bar reveals a line-up of bottles from a variety of regions, each with its own character. Whisky is a particular strength, from familiar Japanese names such as Yamazaki, Hakushu and Yoichi to distinctive bottlings including Miyagikyo, available exclusively from the Sendai Distillery, and Miyanoshika from Sakurao Distillery. The Scotch selection is broad, too, with Macallan, Laphroaig and Ardbeg among the choices. There is plenty to explore, whether you are guided by your mood or a favourite aroma.
Classic cocktails, served without fuss
There is more to choose from than whisky served neat or on the rocks. The cocktail list includes a 716 Gin and Tonic made with Tanqueray, as well as a crisp Gin Rickey, Moscow Mule, Salty Dog and Tequonic, alongside mixed drinks organised by spirit. Lighter liqueur-based options include Terai-bayurin, made with matcha liqueur and oolong tea, and a refreshing Spumoni. The range offers an easy choice for a first drink or a slower final one.
A welcoming place for a solo drink
The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, making Nanairo a comfortable choice for a quiet drink on your own. Mini jazz performances and other live music are sometimes held, adding a pleasant soundtrack to an evening at the bar. For a laid-back spot in the Waseda Tsurumaki-cho area with a well-stocked drinks selection, it is a dependable option.
